Although Barbara paints primarily in watercolor, she also sketches in pencil and ink and experiments with pastels and acrylics.  Her inspiration comes from painting en plein air, photographs taken locally and increasingly from her imagination.  She compiles and mentally stockpiles exciting ideas wherever she is; her goal and challenge is to translate those inner visions into paintings.  Barbara especially enjoys painting people in groups; she also accepts commissions for house paintings and local scenes.

Barbara’s initial interest in painting was sparked by the exquisite watercolors and sketch books of a great-great grandmother which were displayed in her childhood home.  She painted from an early age and studied watercolor technique as an adult in NJ with Mary Ellen Silkotch, Diana Wilkoc Patton, Paul McCormack and Ruth Wilson.  She began her serious artistic dedication after retiring and moving full time to Lake Wallenpaupack in Northeast PA.  In PA Barbara joined the Come Paint With Me plein air group, thus becoming involved with many local artists.  PA shows include Davis Chant in Lords Valley and Milford, Re/Max and the Philip Hone Gallery in Honesdale, Artisan Gallery in Hawley and the annual Alumnae Art Show at Cedar Crest College in Allentown.  As a member of the Wayne County Arts Alliance she is exploring collage and more abstract art with Ioannis Glykokokalos.  Each year for the past eight years Barbara has painted and donated a raffle painting of a Hawley PA scene to the annual Hawley Winterfest celebration with proceeds going to a local charity.
